Repertoire database

The Repertoire Database Project is the first ever attempt to map exactly to what extent, by whom, when and where Ibsen`s plays have been staged in theatres all over the world.

The purpose of the repertoire database at ibsen.net is to provide documentary evidence of Ibsen`s significance as a dramatist on a worldwide scale and to equip theatre scholars and others with a tool for analysing Ibsen`s dramatic art empirically: Where is Ibsen being performed? How many Ibsen premières take place per theatrical season? Which plays are staged more than others? What types of theatre put on Ibsen? Is Ibsen being performed more today than ten years ago? Where and when did the different plays have their world premières? How many Ibsen plays did the Christiania Theater have in its repertoire? These are questions that can be answered by searching the Repertoire Database.

The productions that have been registered in the database span the period from 26 September 1850, which was the date of the première of the very first Ibsen play (The Burial Mound at the Christiania Theater) up to the present day. The database is up to date on performances staged in recent years. The retrospective registration is extremely time-consuming and resource-intensive, but has now come so far that the database is beginning to serve its purpose.
