Status quo in Norway after local election on 10 September 2007. The conservative party (Høyre) keeps majority in Oslo, Norway’s capital, as well as in Bergen. The social democratic party (Arbeiderpartiet) still rules Trondheim.
08/10/2007 :: On a national basis, this year’s outcome of the local election is quite similar to the election in 2003. The only exception is the Socialist Left Party, which experienced a significant decline in this local election. Both the Labour Party and the Conservatives, together with the make-or-break centre parties had only minor changes to the previous local election measured on a national basis.

Local governance
Norway holds 19 counties and 431 municipalities. The counties and municipalities are governed by elected councils, and elections are held every four years. Mandates are distributed according to a system of proportional representation.
Oslo and Bergen are special cases on the local political arena. The two cities employ a parliamentary form of government, after the model of the political organisation at the national level.
